Manila, November 28, 2025.

The Scalabrinian missionaries, seminarians, and the residents of the Scalabrini Center for People on the Move (SCPM) came together on November 28 to joyfully commemorate the 138th Foundation Anniversary of the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles – Scalabrinians. Joining them were guests from various religious congregations around New Manila, as well as staff and collaborators from the Scalabrini Migration Center and Stella Maris Centers, all gathered in a shared spirit of gratitude, communion, and celebration.
The highlight of the event was a solemn Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Most Rev. Elias L. Ayuban, Jr., CMF, DD, JCD, Bishop of Cubao. His presence brought a profound sense of unity with the local Church, deepening the community’s appreciation for the mission entrusted to the Scalabrinians since their founding in 1887.
A Call to Return to the Roots

In his homily, Bishop Elias invited the Scalabrinians to “go back to the root”—to rediscover the original inspiration of St. John Baptist Scalabrini, Father to Migrants and Founder of the Congregation. He emphasized that faithfulness to the charism begins with remembering the foundation: a spirituality marked by compassion, pastoral creativity, and a profound love for migrants, refugees, and seafarers.
The bishop highlighted that anniversaries are not simply commemorations of the past but opportunities to rekindle the fire of the mission. “The grace of your foundation carries both memory and mission,” he said, urging the community to remain steadfast in serving those who are uprooted by necessity and seeking a home with dignity.
A Celebration of Mission and Gratitude
The gathering became a moment of deep gratitude for 138 years of service to the Church and to migrant communities around the world. Missionaries and formands reflected on the humble beginnings of the Congregation and the countless lives touched through the ministry of accompaniment, pastoral care, and evangelization.
The anniversary celebration also strengthened the sense of community among residents of SCPM, seminarians, and missionaries, showing that the mission is carried out not only by individuals but through a shared commitment rooted in communion.
Guided by Scalabrini’s Vision
As the celebration concluded, the community renewed its dedication to the mission entrusted to them by St. Scalabrini. His life continues to inspire Scalabrinians across continents, reminding them that bringing the Gospel to migrants is both a sacred duty and a privileged encounter with Christ Himself.
May St. John Baptist Scalabrini continue to guide, inspire, and strengthen the Congregation in its tireless mission of welcoming, protecting, promoting, and integrating migrants throughout the world.
