CS MANILA: DIACONATE ORDINATION OF THREE SCALABRINIAN BROTHERS IN MANILA, PHILIPPINES

QUEZON CITY, March 19, 2024.

Three scholastic seminarians from the Scalabrini Theology House were ordained deacons by His Excellency Honesto F. Ongtioco, DD, STL, the Ordinary of the Diocese of Cubao. Reverend Hugo Antonio Facio Hernandez, CS from Mexico, Reverend Marius Rewa, CS from Indonesia and Reverend Jonas Rafael Fernandez Martinez, CS from Venezuela, were ordained deacons at the Santo Nino de Violago Quasi Parish along E. Rodriguez Avenue in Quezon City. The ordination was attended by the Scalabrinian family in the area as well as friends and acquaintances in the places of their apostolate.

The reception was unfortunately marred by the fire that broke out in the neighborhood of the STHS seminary almost endangering the seminary. The fire that affected around 150 families in the area, or about 700 individuals, came to within 20 meters from the seminary building.

The reception was hurriedly relocated at the SCPM covered court at 8th Street, thanks to the quick wittedness of the confreres and the skill of the catering services to bring the food out of STHS in the middle of the more than 20 fire trucks and dosen of ambulances as well as police cars that lined up the streets and the seminary compound as well as the fleeing neighbors.

The STHS community also was divided into attending the reception and saving what they can possibly save in the house. The local community had their time together in the evening over a simple dinner from the leftovers of the reception, to thank the Lord, Saint Joseph, Saint Scalabrini and all the heavenly friends for the ordination and saving the house from the fire that struck the neighborhood.

After the simple dinner, the deacons and the confreres began converting the seminary's dining room and the garage into an evacuation centre for around 80 persons who were affected by the fire. They will be housed temporarily at STHS in close coordination with the local government, social welfare the parish, other NGOs and the other neighbours whose houses were not affected by the fire.
