In loving memory of Fr. Giuseppe Molon, CS

Fr. Giuseppe Molon, 89, passed away peacefully in the House of San Raffaele in Bassano del Grappa (Italy) on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

Fr. Giuseppe was born on March 10, 1933, in Gazzolo D'Arcole (VR) Italy. He professed his first religious vows on September 21, 1953, and his perpetual religious profession on October 7, 1956. On December 20, 1958 he was ordained deacon and on March 19, 1959 he received the sacred order of priesthood.

Fr. Giuseppe is one of the first Scalabrinian Missionaries who arrived in Australia. He arrived in the Province on December 4, 1959 and was appointed assistant priest at All Saints Parish, Fitzroy, VIC. From 1964 to 1965 Fr. Giuseppe went to Rome, Italy for “Anno di Aggiornamento” (A year of updating). In June 1965 he returned to Australia and was appointed director of the Italian Centre of Wollongong, NSW. On October 19, 1967 Fr. Giuseppe was appointed national chaplain of the Italian Catholic Federation until the end of January 1971. On July 20, 1970 he was elected 2nd Provincial Councilor.

Fr. Giuseppe was Provincial Superior for two terms, from July 1973 to May 1976 and May 1976 to May 1979. On May 16, 1979 he was appointed parish priest at Mater Christi Parish, Seaton, SA. On January 27, 1985 Fr. Giuseppe was transferred to Liverpool where he was appointed as chaplain of the Scalabrini Village and Pastoral Operator. In 1991 Fr. Giuseppe was appointed as Local Bursar of the Community and Chaplain to the Italian Community in Liverpool. On January 31, 1992 he was appointed parish priest at St. Brigid's Parish, North Fitzroy, VIC. In 1998 father Giuseppe took a Sabbatical year in Italy, he came back to Australia in 1999 and was assigned as parish priest at St. Luke's Parish, Lalor, VIC. On January 16, 2006 he was appointed assistant parish priest at Mater Christi Parish, Seaton, SA.

After fifty year of dynamic missionary work, Fr. Giuseppe returned to Italy on March 28, 2009 to retire in the House of San Raffaele in Bassano del Grappa. Father Giuseppe was recently visited by our Provincial Superior, Fr. Ignacio Gutierrez, last October 18, 2022 when he received a special stole on the occasion of the Canonization of our Founder Saint John Baptist Scalabrini.

Fr. Giuseppe Molon was a pillar of the Scalabrinian presence in Australia. We entrust the soul of our dearest father Giuseppe to the tender love of our heavenly Father to bid him eternal rest.
