30 years of welcoming hearts and open doors! Scalabrini Center: a Home away from Home.

The Scalabrini Center for People on the Move (SCPM), an initiative of the Scalabrinians in the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Province is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Established on May 1, 1993, the center has been dedicated to serving migrants, seafarers, fishers, refugees, and their families for the past three decades.

Over the years, the Scalabrini Center has provided a wide range of services to thousands of individuals, including spiritual and legal assistance, counseling, shelter, and formation. The center’s commitment to providing a holistic service to people on the move has made it a valuable resource for those who are navigating the challenges of living in a new country.

Since its beginnings, the Scalabrini Center has reached out to 11,131 individuals, 2,846 families, 191 guests (people related to people-on-the-move) and 118 refugees. The number of times a person returns to the Center is around 8; therefore, if we sum up the number of individuals and families and multiply by 8 the total is 111,816. This computation is for the lodging service only. Other services are not included.

The center’s dedication to providing comprehensive support to individuals has been key to its success in serving the needs of people on the move. One of the core strengths of the Scalabrini Center is its focus on providing services that address the social, economic, and legal needs of the migrants. By recognizing that individuals have complex needs that require a comprehensive approach, the center has been able to make a significant impact in the lives of those it serves.

In addition to its direct service work, the Scalabrini Center is also committed to raising awareness about the issues facing migrants and seafarers in the Philippines and advocating for policies that promote their rights and welfare. Through its advocacy work, the center has been instrumental in shaping.
